The Hunter Escape XL Safety Stirrup is the first traditional Fillis-style safety stirrup designed specifically for the hunter ring. Combining the timeless appearance of a classic Fillis stirrup with our innovative Escape Safety Technology and Traction Pin Footbed System, the Hunter Escape XL delivers both elegance and performance.
The XL (Extra Large) Edition is designed for riders who prefer a wider foot platform or require additional room in the stirrup. The expanded footbed provides increased comfort, stability, and support while maintaining the refined appearance expected in the hunter ring. The larger platform also promotes greater confidence and security by offering a broader base of support for the rider's foot.
Our unique ramped footbed design helps naturally reduce pressure on the rider's knees, ankles, and feet, while the proprietary interchangeable traction pin system enhances grip and creates an exceptional connection between rider and stirrup. The slim-profile footbed promotes optimal balance and stability while helping absorb impact through the ball of the foot for increased comfort during long rides.
Precision-machined from solid 6061-T6 aircraft-grade billet aluminum, the Hunter Escape XL offers exceptional durability and strength, with a lateral crush resistance of up to 3,000 lbs per square inch to help protect the rider's feet in the event of an accident.
Each stirrup is meticulously hand-polished and finished with our premium Super Chrome coating, providing a luxurious appearance with lasting durability and shine.

      important safety notice

      Hunter EQ Safety Stirrups feature a precision-engineered release arm with a spring-activated opening mechanism. Before each ride, it is critical to confirm that the release arm opens and closes freely without obstruction. Ensure no debris or foreign objects are interfering with the mechanism's functionality.

      installation & usage instructions

      • Mount stirrups with the movable safety arm facing outward—never toward the horse’s body.
      • For the safety mechanism to function as designed, all the following must apply:
      1. The stirrups are mounted on the correct sides.
      2. The release arm is facing away from the horse.
      3. The foot can naturally press the release arm outward in an emergency.
      4. The mechanism is clean, free of debris, and properly lubricated.
      5. No external obstacles (saddle parts, horse, brush, etc.) block the release.

       Do not insert the ankle into the stirrup ring.

      care & maintenance

      • Clean the grip and release mechanism after every ride using a direct stream of water only—no detergents or chemicals.
        Remove all debris (sand, dirt, stones, etc.) from the moving parts to ensure proper function.
      • Use stirrup covers if storing with the saddle to protect the finish and mechanism.
      • Lubricate the spring mechanism regularly to ensure consistent performance.
      • Only ride with clean boot soles to help preserve tread life and grip performance.

      • Do not wear clothing, accessories, or boots that could interfere with stirrup function.
      • Tested operating temperatures: -20°C to +80°C.
      • Always verify proper stirrup orientation before riding.
      • After a fall or crash, Replace or Return to American Equus for inspection.

      • Wash in a dishwasher
